US Arrival of Russian Arabians

PrintE-mail

*Sportsmenka, (Pomeranets x Sahara) <img src= There was a time, when Russian Arabians couldn't even be granted registration papers by the US Registry. Superb Arabian horses such as the mare, *Sportsmenka, (at right,) were imported, and then existed in limbo, as the US Registry refused to issue papers on acknowledged and documented Russian foaled Arabians. But American breeders recognized her quality, and contributed to the eventual investigation of what more could be found from the Russian breeding program that had earlier given us the world famous champion sire, *Naborr.

Russian Arabians are well established in Arabian horse breeding programs today, thanks to the perseverance of early breeders who kept searching for the ideal Arabian horse. Beginning with the introduction of the beautiful chestnut stallion *Muscat on the world scene, (U.S. and Can. National Ch., 1980,) Russian Arabians have earned national and world championships in every venue, and have finally been awarded the respect their purebred heritage and quality deserves.

The Russian Arabian horse was bred to recreate the most outstanding horses in the entire equine world. Anchored by classic bloodlines from the Crabbet Stud, (est. 1878,) key remnants of desert bred imports from Polish and Russian Royal family expeditions to the desert rounded out the foundation of the*Muscat, photo by Sparagowski herd.  By blending-in latter-day Asil bloodlines from Egypt, spectacular Russian designed individuals have taken the world show scene by storm. As evidenced by the international champion, *Muscat, (at right,) achieving the ideal has become so much more possible. A balanced blend of the extreme beauty and type of the desert horse, and the equally extreme athletic ability of the Arabian breed, Russian bred horses have excelled at endurance, conformation, racing, dressage, and as family trail horses.

While surviving the ravages of war, and the changing fortunes of European breeders, the beloved Arabian horse endures. By fortunate circumstance, many of the finest Arabian horses in the world contributed to the Russian Arabian studbook. Their quality continues to echo in their descendants. Dedicated breeders around the world are inspired to create a horse that rivals the Arabians of art and legend. With the current availability of top Russian breeding mares and stallions, tomorrow's generation will continue to advance towards perfection.Russian Arabian Horses Icon, by Stacey Mayer C 2010
